For the second edition of Anti-Matter's "reunion interview" series, Richie and I venture out to discover how much we’ve evolved over the past 29 years. As it turns out, a lot.
The original Birkenhead interview was the most surprising from the original antimatter incarnation. I think it’s the ideal example of how an interviewer and subject can dance together.
Seeing you revisit each other 30 years later and pick up that dance where you left off was so cool.
"I remember actually reciting the lyrics to “We Just Might” to my daughter once—you know, “You come drunk to the show, looking for a fight”—and I remember when I got to the line that said, “Take a look at yourself, you’re a fucking mess,” my daughter was like, “That’s really mean, Dad! You don’t know what that guy’s problems are.”
Proof that she is clearly wise beyond her years.
I could easily write an essay on the death of regional culture but, I'd rather just type out that the original interview confirmed the soft spot I had for Richie was indeed valid and this reunion is a great reminder of that.
Love this interview. From the first time a friend lent me a tape of underdog playong cbs i was overcome by Richie's thoughtfulness and honesty. I was hooked for life. Thanks Norm for bringing out that relatable honesty in this piece. All these years later and the chemistry is still so evident between you both
Into Another has been a part of my life since 1991 but I saw them for only the second time at Terminal 5 last night. I hope some other people in this universe were there. It was incredibly beautiful and meaningful. Thank you for this interview, Norm.
Awesome interview. Into Another was such a special band and amazing live experience. Wonderful hearing from you Ritchie! Loved your voice on the Fate's got a Driver compilation!
Nice interview! Saw them once in Berlin at SO36. Their first Eurotour maybe. Could have been with Supertouch. Was good in any case! Always liked the special vocal style. Still own the first album.
Loved reading this as I drank the first cuppa' jo. I remember seeing Into Another as they first took stages and thinking how lucky to see them in small venues. They opened my mind to new lyrical adventures and sonic genre-bending in general. Thank you Norm and Richie.
An absolutely amazing band, amazing interview. One of the first "hardcore" bands I really fell in love with. So bummed more people haven't heard Seemless.
oh, there's alllll sorts of rules and messy things in some contracts that labels have with this sort of stuff, and they usually have the legal resources to fight over it.
I’m not an entertainment lawyer but when I read stories about bands getting taken advantage of by major labels it reminds of this quote from John Rockefeller: “I would rather earn 1% off a hundred people’s efforts than 100% of my own efforts.”

Hollywood never put it on streaming, more of their punitive behavior. Which is tragic. Truly an amazing album.
I had the CD from way back when, and somehow those MP3 files survived the many moves between new computers and external hard drive back ups.
Surprisingly, it has survived on YouTube via rips and I really hope i didn't just jinx that.
Is recording an lp for a major like building a house for someone else? It is your work but someone else gets to keep it.
