In 1993, I started a hardcore fanzine that tried to make sense of a scene in transition. In Part 1 of 2, I try to explain why I felt Anti-Matter was necessary then—and why it feels relevant again now.
I’m sitting on my front porch stoned and listening to samiam and finding this just put a huge smile on my face. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and life has been so up and down of late, it’s nice to have a moment like this where at least for tonight, right now, I’m in 1994 all over again and the world seems alright .
I am thrilled you are relaunching this, and excited to see who is featured and how things are positioned. I agree that there is a crisis of sustainable media right now, and I worry about how people on the fringes will continue to exist in digital spaces that are more and more censored and sanitized. For me zines have been the answer. Congrats on your new venture, excited to be along for the ride.
Thank you, Norman. I'm so glad that you brought it back. I wouldve been 12 during its original run, and growing up in BC, Canada. Therefore it wouldn't have been on my radar, but discovering it now at 42. It's been very rewarding...:)
