"...maybe people need an escape, and maybe some people just want to go enjoy a show and they don’t want to be reminded of the horrible things that they’re thinking about all day every day. I am constantly having that conversation in my own head about what’s the right thing to do."

Here! Here! So true, I feel as if art—visual and audio—does just that. Great interview, many heavy topics covered and sorted.

" I think a big thing about pop, especially as a young girl, is seeing what appears to be empowered bad-ass women, with their unique identities and styles just taking up space."

More and more, there are a lot of women (and gender-nonconforming) singers fronting hardcore bands, so I'm really curious to see what we get from that - what happens when you could look up to Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish OR Kat Moss and Bryanna Bennett?

I honestly think the next generation will be less concerned with genres in general. They will likely enjoy equal helpings of Billie Eilish *and* Kat Moss, without shame. And I kind of love that potential freedom for them.

I agree, and with Knocked Loose playing Coachella and the sheer breadth of bands getting booked on the same bill at hardcore fests and shows, it's already in motion. I'm thinking more that even if you appreciate their music, huge pop stars don't always seem relatable, so being able to go to shows and see someone like you up there screaming their heads off seems like a really good thing.

“. We start to believe that we are “a type of person,” and then we only act according to that belief. So if I believe I am “a shy person,” then I will not go to the party because “I’m too shy.” But that doesn’t allow for you to treat each opportunity as an individual experience, and to say, “Fuck it. I am whoever I am at this second.”

This is a great nugget of wisdom/advice. Thank you

Ha, I came here to quote this too. There is some pretty prevalent parenting advice these days based around differentiating between the action and the person. "Your voice becomes their inner voice." When you say a kid is shy, they take that in as what they are, so you can talk it about as "acting shy", not something you are, just something you did.
