Sense Field spent their early days convinced the hardcore scene would reject them—only to become one of our best-loved bands. Chris Evenson remembers the late Jon Bunch as the engine that could.
This was a really moving read at times Norman. You did a brilliant job of approaching an undoubtedly difficult topic of conversation with your usual sensitivity and grace. Well done.
Lovely to hear from Chris about this and to see that demo - which I have never seen/heard before. I love Jon, the last time I saw him was with War Generation and even though he was having a blast playing - off stage you could see he was having a rough go of it. I miss his voice and I'm going to listen to some SF later today. Thank you Norm.
What I always thought was cool about sense field even though they didn’t fit into the “traditional” hardcore sound they had hXc references in their songs. For example “overstand” the first song of lp building. (A lyric taken from the bad brains song “re-ignition”) also I believe the artwork for building was done by the guitar player from No for an answer.
It's so hard to express how much Sense Field means to me. Every show, every listen evokes deep emotion whether it is connected to the song because it and the performance are so incredible or it brings deep feelings to the surface about myself and people I care about. The fact that there is sadness and loss attached to it now makes it painful but oddly I still listen instead of racing to FF like I may havefor another artist who is no longer living. Sense Field and Jon's voice compels me to feel the feels. What more can I want from art?

Yes, Gavin Oglesby did the art for both Building and Killed For Less.
Also did the sound engineer who mastered “building” was he also the same guy who mastered RATM’s evil empire album?
According to Discogs Andy Wallace mixed both of those records, but I don't know any more than that.
Thanks for sharing. Got my Sense Field records out this morning to pair with the reading. Have a great day.
This is the best, thank you. My favorite band.
